An EPIC conducted alignment study to determine the extent of correspondence between the exit-level Common Core State Standards and each of five sets of existing standards (California and Massachusetts state standards, the Texas College and Career Readiness Standards, the Knowledge and Skills for University Success, and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme).

The California Department of Education has created standards for fifteen career pathways. For each pathway, ten distinct areas are identified, such as Foundation Standards, Career Planning and Management, and Technical Knowledge and Skills.
The Speaking and Listening Anchor Standards are derived from the College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards. There are two clusters for the Anchor Standards in speaking and listening: Comprehension and Collaboration, and Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas.
The Language Anchor Standards are derived from the College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards. There are three clusters for the Anchor Standards in language: Convention of Standard English, Knowledge of Language, and Vocabulary Acquisition and Use.
The Writing Anchor Standards are derived from the College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards. There are four clusters for the Anchor Standards in writing: Text Types and Purposes, Production and Distribution of Writing, Research to Build and Present Knowledge, and Range of Writing.
The Reading Anchor Standards are derived from the College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards. There are four clusters for the Anchor Standards in reading: Key Ideas and Details, Craft and Structure, Integration of Knowledge and Ideas, and Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity.
National content standards for foreign language learning revolve around five clusters: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities.
The Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice are a set of general statements about mathematical process and proficiencies, reasoning, and conceptual understanding. They are overarching organizers to be employed during the teaching and learning of all the mathematics standards.
